Margaret Irene (Hubbs) Willson, age 88, went to be with the Lord on August 25, 2024. A lifelong resident of Texas County, Missouri, Irene was living with her son, Brian and daughter-in-law, Diana, in Fair Hope, Alabama, at the time of her death.

Irene was born on October 6, 1935, in Dunklin, Missouri, to the late Lacy and Clara Hubbs. She graduated from Houston High School in May of 1953. She married her high school sweetheart, Glenn Willson, on February 26, 1954. Irene was an active member of several Southern Baptist Churches while she and husband moved often while raising their three children. Irene served in many roles supporting children’s programs in the church. Irene and Glenn were long term members of Ozark Baptist Church in Houston, Missouri. Irene served in a quilting ministry with several members of the church. The quilts they crafted were donated to people in need.

Irene and Glenn enjoyed traveling on family outings and vacations while her children were growing and later enjoyed long road trips throughout the United States, including an extended trip to Alaska in their camper. They also enjoyed foreign travel to Germany and Australia, and cruising.

As a child, and throughout life, Irene enjoyed the scenery of the Missouri Ozarks and often spoke of her fond memories spending time in and around the Big Piney River area. She and Glenn built their dream retirement home in the Yukon area of rural Texas County. Her favorite memories were those involving life at the end of their road overlooking a creek in the valley below their home. Glenn and Irene enjoyed many years there together, frequently hosting friends and family. Many happy days were spent entertaining grandchildren, who all called her “Grammy”, with trips to the creek, horseback riding, movies in the basement, and walks in the woods. In one particularly funny incident, Irene donned a sheet imitating a ghost and walked through the valley at dusk where Glenn was camping with children from the church. This certainly made memories!

Irene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Glenn; brothers, Dean and Wayne Hubbs; and sister, Dorothy McCallister.

Irene is survived by sister, Kay Zook (partner, Gene); daughter, Sharilyn (husband, Mike); sons, Robert (wife, Leslie) and Brian (wife, Diana); six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; along with many long-time friends throughout Texas County.
