The Lebanon R-3 School Board has decided to not fill a deputy superintendent position like it originally planned, according to the highlights of its meeting from Feb. 17 (which the Record was present for the open portions of).
This is an update to our Wednesday issue story on the board’s meeting on Feb. 10, where at the end the Record noted that the board had voted 5-2 in closed session to approve the appointment of someone to the recently created deputy superintendent position, though the highlights of that meeting, sent out Feb. 13, did not specify who. At the time, it said a public announcement was “pending final contract discussions.”
The highlights of Feb 17’s meeting, put out that evening, said the board had voted Feb. 10 to appoint Holly Schrage, currently Assistant Superintendent of Quality Learning and Experiences, to the role. Schrage, though had decided to remain as assistant superintendent.
The highlights said the decision “was made to maintain transparency, protect trust, and uphold the overall welfare of the Lebanon R-3 Schools and community.”
The highlights said that the school board decided after further review it would not fill a deputy superintendent position at this time but continue looking at leadership needs as it related to its succession planning.
The Record had previously reported on the board having separately created the deputy superintendent position and job description (but both at 5-2 votes) in January, with the position related to succession planning in light of R-3 Superintendent David Schmitz not extending his contract past June 30, 2028.
The Record will include this information in next Wednesday’s issue.
