Lebanon and Laclede County saw another year of news as 2025 comes to a close. Here is a look at some of the top stories of 2025 as seen in the pages of the Laclede County Record.


January


Newly-elected Laclede County officeholders were sworn in Dec. 31. They were Eastern Commissioner Erik Lindsey, Sheriff Matt Frederick, Coroner Steve Murrell, Assessor Julie Rayl-Gilstrap, Public Administrator Annette Charles and Western Commissioner Joe Wasmer. Also taking office was Surveyor Steve Mathis.


The Laclede County Commission announced the appointment of James Falls as the new 911 Director for Laclede County Emergency Communications. Falls is a retired Major in the United States Army and has dedicated more than 17 years to law enforcement and emergency services.


Twenty signs identifying Route 66 roadside attractions in Laclede County will be erected for the iconic highway’s centennial in 2026, the Lebanon-Laclede County Route 66 Society announced in January at its annual membership meeting.


The National Trust for Historic Preservation awarded a $5,900 “Preserve Route 66” grant to the Route 66 Society for the project, society vice president Mike Boggs, who wrote the grant application, said.
