Ted Matthews, 88, of Marshfield, died Thursday, May 21, 2020, in Marshfield.

He was born Oct. 27, 1931, in Bellflower, Calif. to Samuel W. and Zora Chaney Matthews.

On July 21, 1952, he married Carrie Holiday.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, one sister, and one grandson, Matthew Blankenship.

Early in his life, Ted worked in oil fields. He also worked with fiberglass. Most recently, he was a boat mechanic and worked at Lowe Boats. Ted was also a Freewill Baptist minister for many years.

He was a member of Westside Church of God.

Survivors include his wife, Carrie; three daughters, Treasha Brown and her significant other, Truman Henson of Lebanon; Flecia Blankenship and her husband Bruce of Marshfield and Sondra Peppers and her husband Cecil of Lebanon; six grandchildren, Paul Blankenship, Melawn Young, Daniel Blankenship, Joe Blankenship, Kayla Meador and Bradley Peppers; 17 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

A graveside service and burial for Ted Matthews was held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 26, 2020, at Graham Cemetery near Conway with Bruce Blankenship, Cecil Peppers and Joe Blankenship officiating, under the direction of Shadel’s Colonial Chapel of Lebanon. Visitation was held 5-7 p.m. Monday at Shadel’s Colonial Chapel. Memorials have been suggested to Gideons International. Donations may be left at or mailed to Shadel’s Colonial Chapel, P.O.
