Edwin C. Wood Sr.

Edwin C. Wood Sr., son of Cassius Herman and Maxine Elizabeth Pace Wood, was born January 14, 1939, in Iowa City, Iowa, and departed this life, July 16, 2024, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of eighty-five years. 

On August 14, 1958, Edwin was united in marriage to his heart and soul, Barbara Sue Harrell. Together they shared sixty-five years of love and laughter, triumphs and tears, side by side, while raising their three children, Edwin Jr., Diana, and Barbara. 

In 1982, Edwin and Barbara moved the family from California, to the small town of Lebanon, Missouri. Upon moving to Lebanon, they became the owners of The Lil’ Country Store, that they operated for six years giving them the perfect introduction into the community. 

Edwin worked in management for MFA Propane, and also Commercial painting for a period of time. At home, he loved working with his tools and was known as a “Jack of all trades.” He enjoyed taking his family camping, fishing and collecting knives. Most of all, Edwin loved taco dinner nights. Any special occasion or holiday meant there was going to be a taco dinner and he lived for that time with his loved ones. 

He leaves behind to celebrate his memory his wife Barbara Wood; one son, Edwin C. Wood Jr.; two daughters, Diana Steinmark, and Barbara Ballard; four grandchildren, Chris Childers, Steven Owens, Rachel Johnson, Kayla Ballard; eight great-grandchildren, Garrett, Austin, Ashton, Jacob, Charlea, Kennedy, Corey, and Jude, other relatives and many dear friends. 

He is preceded in death by his parents. 

Edwin will be forever missed by all who knew and loved him.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 19, 2024, at Lone Rock Cemetery with Pastor Steve Jones officiating. Memorials in memory of Edwin have been suggested to his family. Donations can be left at or mailed to Shadel’s Colonial Chapel, P.O. Box 948, Lebanon, Mo. 65536.
