Funeral services for Brother Terry Hansen, age 73, will be held on Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at 11 AM in the chapel of Shelton-Hunt Funeral Home with Brother Frank Ward officiating. Burial will follow in Double Springs Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be on Monday, July 22, 2024 starting at 5 PM until 7 PM in the chapel of Shelton-Hunt Funeral Home.
Mr. Hansen went to his heavenly home on July 16th, 2024 after a hard fight with several chronic illnesses at Methodist Hospice Residence. He spent most of his life as a pastor both before and after obtaining his Masters of Divinity at Memphis Theological Seminary. His past congregations include: Shiloh Baptist Church in KY, Double Springs Cumberland Presbyterian Church in TN, White Oak Pond Cumberland Presbyterian Church in MO, and Central Avenue Christian Church in TN.
He was born on March 13, 1951 in Bowling Green, KY to his parents Edgar and Theresa Jane Hansen. They moved to Hopkinsville, KY where Terry spent most of his young adult life, graduating from Hopkinsville High School in 1969. From a young age, Terry was a hard worker: from his dedicated paper route, to working in a restaurant, to becoming a prominent shoe salesman, he always made sure people had what they needed.
He went on to have one of the great joys of life, his son Mark, with his first wife Connie. After he and Connie divorced, he met and married the love of his life, Ruth Ann Dollar, and they soon relocated to Tennessee. He took a job as a lead salesman at Parks Belk in the shoe department and was President of the Jaycees, where he won several state and national awards. After leaving the ministry for several years, he found his way back in the mid 1990’s. In seminary, he won several accolades including the award for “Best Orator.” We will never know exactly how many people were impacted by his ministry; but his goal always was to bring Glory and Honor to his Lord and Savior, which he surely achieved.
Ruth Ann and Terry welcomed their daughter Jennifer three years after marrying, and lived in Humboldt, TN where he pastored at Double Springs CP Church for many years until he accepted the calling at White Oak Pond in Lebanon, MO. Terry and Ruth Ann loved their time there and made life-long friends during that season. They relocated back to Humboldt, TN where Terry accepted the calling at Central Ave Christian Church (where he recently had resigned due to his health issues).
Terry loved his beloved Chicago Cubs, Kentucky Wildcats, watching and playing golf (he was a mean golfer most of his life) and singing. He had the innate ability to make most people he encountered feel seen and heard. His compassion, storytelling, and ability to make others laugh is surely something he will always be remembered for. He loved Ruth Ann, his children, his family, his friends, and especially, his granddaughters fiercely. However, the great love of Terry’s life was Jesus Christ and proclaiming His gospel for all who would listen to hear. There is no doubt he is at peace now while sitting, talking, and praising the name of the One who has now given him complete healing. The hole he leaves behind in the hearts of those who knew and loved him will never be complete, but we can rejoice in the good news he now stands alongside so many he loved and had been missing so much.
Terry is preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Theresa Jane Hansen; his grandparents, Herman & Mabel Hansen and Bernard & Lula Mae Clements; his sister, Karen Logsdon; his nephew, Rick Kranz; his dear son, Mark Hansen; and his beloved wife, Ruth Ann Hansen.
He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Weaver (Brad); two sisters, Brenda Holt (Ronnie) and Pam Brown (Dwight); daughter in law, Amber Hansen; granddaughters, Hannah Hansen and Heather Hansen; sister in law, Mary Dollar Shapiro (Neil); brother in law, Keith Dollar (Mel); nephew, Shane Holt (Cappy); niece, Ashley Balthrop (Kevin); and so many friends and former congregants who were blessed to have him in their lives.
