SSG (Ret) John Charter Schoonover, 73, of Laquey, a retired United States Air Force Staff Sergeant, died Thursday, Aug. 3, 2023, in the Harry S Truman VA Hospital off Columbia.
He is survived by his mother, Alice Schoonover of San Antonio, Texas; three children, Joy Lynne Smith (James) of Waynesville; Cheryl Roberts (Robert Mills) of Owensboro, Ky., and William Marshall Schoonover (Jennifer) of the state of Kentucky; nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Harriett Thomas of the state of Alabama and Marsha Hartman of Waynesville; one brother, James Schoonover of the state of Texas; several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Judy, Carol, and Rowena.
Graveside services with military honors will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 7, 2023, in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery of Waynesville. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of John Schoonover and may be left at Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville/St. Robert.
