Longtime Conway teacher dies

Well-known Laclede County educator Mary Elizabeth “Betsy’’ Finley, of Lebanon, died Friday in Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. She was 58.

Finley was a longtime teacher in the Conway school system and taught junior high computers, computer applications, high school accounting, and was the adviser to the FBLA Club. Finley was an active member of Heritage Baptist Church in Lebanon, where her husband, the Rev. Wayne Finley was associate pastor.

She was preceded in death by a son, Spc. James F. Finley, who was killed in Afghanistan in 2008 while serving in the U.S. Army.

Finley became ill in January. After being diagnosed with a flu virus and pneumonia at Mercy Hospital Lebanon, Finley was admitted to the Columbia hospital and then transferred to Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, where she succumbed to her illnesses.
