The Lebanon Publishing Company is hosting a Coffee with the Candidate meet and greet event for U.S. Rep. Vicky Hartzler, who is running for the United States Senate, on Saturday.

The informal event will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Lebanon Publishing Company office at 100 E. Commercial St.

Hartzler, a Republican, is currently the representative for Missouri’s 4th congressional district. She has held the seat since she was first elected in 2010.

“Vicky Hartzler really is the best House member to represent Missouri in my lifetime,” said longtime Lebanon Publishing Company owner Dalton Wright.

Wright said that he first became impressed with Hartzler when he saw her speak against force reductions at a Fort Leonard Wood meeting.

“I was really impressed with her talk. She knows how important the fort is to the surrounding economies. Her speech was one of the best I’ve seen,” Wright said.

According to Wright, Hartzler has played a big role in keeping the fort’s numbers from being reduced as she realizes “the relevance” of the fort to the region. Hartzler serves on the Committee on Armed Services, as well as the Committee on Agriculture, two areas that are important to local voters, Wright added.

Before politics, Hartzler had a long career in teaching. She even taught in Lebanon for a short time.

She began her career in politics in 1994 when she was elected to the Missouri House of Representatives. She served as the representative for the 124th District until 2000.

Hartzler lives with her husband, Lowell, and their daughter, Tiffany, on a farm near Harrisonville.
