The Sports Shop -- a popular women's store for nearly half a century

Posted

1. The Sports Shop was a quality women’s store that was in business in downtown Lebanon for nearly 50 years. It was established in 1954 when Jewell Hough and Ruby Brock opened the store in the basement of the Joe Knight building at the corner of Commercial St. and Jefferson Ave. They later moved the shop across the street to 125 W. Commercial St. (where The Parlor Salon is now located) about 1958. Hough and Brock retired in 1970 and sold the business to Vannie Admire, who later moved the business to the former Fashion by Griffith’s and Casey’s department store building in 1989. The business closed in 2001. Submit old photos to Kirk Pearce, Laclede County Record, 100 E. Commercial St., Lebanon, Mo. 65536 or email kirk@laclederecord.com
