This Veterans Day, Lebanon will introduce a new tradition with its first-ever Silent Vigil at Veterans Memorial Park on Wednesday, Nov. 11.
The event is hosted by the City of Lebanon Veterans Memorial Board, in partnership with Lebanon Area Foundation and the Lebanon/Laclede County Historical Museum & Society.
The event will begin with an opening ceremony at 10:45 a.m., featuring Lebanon Mayor Jared Carr as the guest speaker, the presentation of colors by the VFW Color Guard, and the playing of “Taps.
”At 11:11 a.m., the Silent Vigil will begin, with the goal of continuing uninterrupted until midnight. The vigil’s duration will depend on the number of registered participants, and if no walkers are scheduled for the evening hours, it will conclude when the final registered participant completes their walk.
Lebanon’s first Silent Vigil is made possible through the combined efforts of several local organizations to honor our nation’s veterans. The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) will provide the Color Guard and a trumpet player to perform “Taps” during the opening ceremony, while Lebanon Friends of the Fort will provide volunteers to assist with event setup and coordination throughout the vigil, while the American Legion and Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) will provide hot beverages for participants.
