Disaster drill helps emergency responders sharpen skills

Posted
The situation described at the fairgrounds Wednesday morning sounded grim: a fatal traffic accident and major chemical spill. Fortunately, the event was only a drill with first responders practicing how they would respond to a serious emergency. The Laclede County Local Emergency Planning Committee conducted the Chempack full scale exercise in Lebanon at the Laclede County Fairgrounds and the Laclede County Office of Emergency Management. The scenario began at 10 a.m. Wednesday when a truck delivering bulk pesticides on Elm Street was involved in a chain reaction collision that resulted in an explosion and fire near the fairgrounds.
