Ernest "Bud" D. York

Ernest “Bud” D. York, 83, of Jefferson City, passed away on Thursday, April 25, 2024. He was born on November 21, 1940, in Pulaski County, Missouri, the son of the late Emmer and Ella (Storie) York.

Bud was a graduate of Plato High School in Plato, Missouri who went on to further his education at Southwest Missouri State in Springfield, Missouri where he obtained a master’s degree. In 1960 he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he proudly served his country for 25 years until his retirement in 1985. Following his retirement from the Air Force, Bud began working as a professor at Lincoln University teaching computer classes for the next 29 years until his full retirement in 2015.

On August 1, 1980 he was united in marriage to Sieglinde Simak, she survives at their home. Throughout the years Bud enjoyed attending horse races, running, swimming at the YMCA, fishing, reading the daily newspaper and doing crosswords, and absolutely loved his dogs. Teaching was his passion in life, but nothing exceeded his love for his family and he thoroughly cherished each and every moment spent with them.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sieglinde; son, Gary York; sisters, Loretta Khan, Katherine Dowden; grandchildren Madison Salerno (Justin); great grandchild, Theo Salerno; sister-in-law, Linda York; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, William Dean York and Robert Eugene York; nephew, Private Craig Vandegriffe (Missouri National Guard).

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 15, 10:00 a.m. Idumea Baptist Church (25975 Sherwood Lane, Laquey, Missouri, 65534) with full military honors.
