CARRIE V. MATTHEWS

Carrie V. Matthews, 88, of Lebanon, died Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2023, in Lebanon.

She was born July 20, 1935, in Conway to Lon and Nola Sweeney Holiday.

On July 21, 1952, she was united in marriage to Ted Matthews.

Those preceding her in death include her parents; her husband on May 21, 2020; four brothers, Floral, Wayne, Lowell and Ernie Holiday; one grandson, Matthew Blankenship.

Carrie was a natural caregiver and babysat for many years. She loved children and over the years became “grandma” to many that weren’t biologically hers. In her free time, she enjoyed tending to her flowers and listening to gospel music. However, time spent with her family, especially enjoying a meal that she had prepared for them, is what she treasured most.

She was a longtime member of Garfield Church of God. More recently she attended West Side Church of God. 

Carrie is survived by three daughters, Treasha Brown and her significant other, Truman Henson, Flecia Blankenship and her husband Bruce of Northview, and Sondra Peppers of Lebanon; one sister, Lauretta Caffey of Conway; seven grandchildren, Paul Blankenship, Melawn Young, Daniel Blankenship, Joe Blankenship, Kayla Meador, Bradley Peppers and Amber Coffman; twenty-three great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services for Carrie V. Matthews were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20, 2023, at Shadel’s Colonial Chapel with Bruce Blankenship and Joe Blankenship officiating. Burial was in Graham Cemetery. Visitation for Carrie was held at 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, also at Shadel’s Colonial Chapel.
