DELORES M. SHADEL

DeLores M. Shadel, 93, off Lebanon died Saturday, Sept. 2, 2023, in Lebanon.

She was born Aug. 14, 1930, in Phillipsburg to Hershel and Retha Hawkins Montgomery.

On Oct. 10, 1950, she was united in marriage to T.J. Shadel.

DeLores is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Thomas Johnson “TJ’’ Shadel; three brothers, Norris, Elbert, “Ebb’’ and H.P. “Jude’’ Montgomery and by her sister, Bernice Johnson.

DeLores graduated from Lebanon High School in 1948. She and her husband T.J. founded Colonial Funeral Chapel in 1957 and continued to be active in their business until 2019, until her health began to fail. On July 4, 1948, the first broadcasting day of KLWT Radio, she sang and played live, “Amazing Grace,” and continued that for many years each morning at 6:00 A.M., with the Gospel of Grace Program from Tabernacle Baptist Church.

She was a charter member of Tabernacle Baptist Church. In 1973, she transferred her membership to First Baptist Church and remained active and faithful, as long as her health allowed.

Delores is survived by her two sons, Rusty Shadel and his wife Marcia of Lebanon and Rick Shadel and his wife Mary Jo of Osage Beach; four grandchildren, Justin Shadel and his wife Heather, Casey Shadel and his wife Angela, J.D. Shadel and his wife Becka and Kayla Farner and her husband Brett; 10 great-grandchildren, Drew and Elsie Shadel, Beau, Nash and Claire Shadel, Jake and Luke Shadel, and Jace, Lilli Ann and Robert Farner; several nieces and nephews, who fondly remember her as “Aunt Dosh’’; other relatives and many dear friends.

Funeral services for DeLores M. Shadel will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2023, at Shadel’s Colonial Chapel with Pastor Matt Taylor and Rev. Gary Longenecker officaiting. Burial will be in Lebanon Cemetery. Visitation for DeLores was held at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Shadel’s Colonial Chapel.

Memorials have been suggested in memory of DeLores to the Lebanon High School Choirs, because of her love of music and talented musical abilities. Donations can be left at or mailed to Shadel’s Colonial Chapel, P.O. Box 948 or 1001 N. Lynn, Lebanon, Mo. 65536.
