EVA MAYE SHERRER

Eva Maye Sherrer was born December 30, 1925, to the late Neal E. Alexander and Carrie Brown near, Lebanon. She went to Heaven to spend eternity with Jesus on Wednesday, October 11, 2023. At the time of her passing, she was ninety-seven years, nine months and twelve days of age.

Eva Maye grew up during the Great Depression in the Goodwin area. She later moved to Sleeper, Missouri with her family and graduated from Stoutland High School.

On January 27, 1947, Eva Maye was united in marriage to Dale Alphous Sherrer at Rev. Virgil Waterman’s home with Mildred and Dwain Darrow standing up with them. Together they shared thirty-years of marriage and lovingly raised their three children. Dale passed away June 24, 1985.

Eva Maye was also preceded in death by her brothers, Claun and Robert Alexander; her sisters, Hazel McClure, Eunice Hillhouse, Hester Allee and, Lucille Gregory; and an infant brother.

She is survived by her daughters, Diane Stowe and her husband, Gerald of Lebanon, and Beth Hutsell and her husband, Jake of Bucyrus; a son, Larry Sherrer and his wife, Teresa of Lebanon; five grandchildren, Calem Hutsell and wife, Stacie, Casey Hutsell, Carrie Warson and husband, Nathan, Bethany Jones and husband, Ethan and Dalena Kincaid and husband, Dalton; and her great-grandchildren, Cainan, Cadrian, Sadie, Sofie, Emerson, Brooklyn, Case, Ty, Max, Reed, Eva, Griffin and Dalilah. 

In the course of her lifetime, Eva Maye saw many changes. From the depression years, through World War II and the Vietnam War, and finally the introduction of computers and cell phones, Eva Maye experienced them all. The stories she could tell were priceless.

She began her working career at The Sleeper Store, then Rice Stix, then sold Avon products to her family and friends for seven years, and wrote the “Sleeper News” for the Lebanon Daily Record for sixty-five years. She was very well known in her community.

She was a wonderful cook, but was well known for her baking. She worked at the Stoutland School Cafeteria for several years. She was also a 4H leader and taught cooking and sewing. She made delicious baked goods for her family, friends, and for carry-in meals at church. She also was very talented in embroidery work. She had many beautiful pieces of embroidery she not only made for herself, but for Christmas gifts, wedding gifts, and other family members and friends.

Eva Maye’s life revolved around God, family and church. She was saved at age fourteen and was an active in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church until she could no longer attend. She loved her church family.

She loved and adored her own family and enjoyed spending time with them as often as she could. She especially loved making memories with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was so proud of each one of them and they brought her so much joy.

Eva Maye’s faith, conviction, and loyalty will forever be etched on the lives of those she touched.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, October 16, 2023, at Holman-Howe Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Barnett Cemetery. Memorials have been established to Barnett Cemetery or Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and donations may be made through the funeral home.
