James "Jim" Flanary

James “Jim” Lawrence Flanary was born November 18, 1935, in Lebanon to Thomas Harrison Flanary and Ona Catherine Busick Flanary. He passed away Thursday, March 21, 2024, surrounded by his loving family in his home in Humansville. He was eighty-eight years, four months and three days of age at the time of his passing.

He was raised in Lebanon and attended school there. On March 29, 1958, he was united in marriage to his life-long love and best friend, Edith M. Appleberry. Together they have weathered the storms of life and rejoiced in many happy moments as they raised their five wonderful children.

Jim and Edith traveled throughout the Midwest and Jim earned his Journeyman certification as a pipefitter. They moved to Michigan in 1974 where he performed his trade for fifty-five years before retiring. They then moved to Missouri where Jim greatly enjoyed fishing in the beautiful Ozarks.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Sandra Montgomery.

He is survived by his loving wife, Edith Flanary of the home; three daughters, Kathy Cook and her husband Robert of Shirley, Indiana, Jackie Flanary-Smith and her husband Jerry of Clinton Township, Michigan, Teressa Tocco and her husband Ken of Roseville, Michigan; his son, James Flanary of Clinton Township, Michigan; a son-in-law T.J. Montgomery; nine grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.

Jim loved photography and especially enjoyed taking pictures of animals and scenery. He also enjoyed baseball and coached his children’s baseball teams for many years.

He was a member of the Local 636 and was a mentor to many during his decades of service.

Jim was a member of Harvest Assembly Church in Fair Play, Missouri and loved God with all his heart. His family has the assurance that he is spending eternity in Heaven and is fully healed.

Throughout his life, Jim was known for his unwavering dedication to his family, embodying the roles of a loving husband, devoted father, and treasured grandfather and great-grandfather. We celebrate his life and his accomplishments and know that his family and friends will cherish the wonderful memories he made for them.

Services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 25, 2024, at the Holman-Howe Funeral Home in Lebanon with burial in Mount Rose Memorial Park.

Arrangements were under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Lebanon.
