James Robert “Bob” Malmberg

James Robert “Bob” Malmberg, 80, of Camdenton, formerly of Iberia, died Wednesday, May 23, 2018, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield.

He was born in Iberia, Mo. on March 26, 1938, to the late John and Dorothy (Golden) Malmberg.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Jake Malmberg and three sisters, Opal Malmberg, Anna Jean Swope, and Esther Wilson.

Bob was baptized at an early age and again in March 2018.

On Nov. 12, 1966, in Iberia, Bob married Joyce Bernsen, who survives at their home in Camdenton.  

Bob served in the U.S. Army, belonging to the First Battalion 83rd Artillery and was stationed in Germany from 1961 to 1963 where he went stateside until he was honorably discharged in 1967. After being stateside he became a member of the American Legion Post 0105.

While raising a family and farming, he worked for Mt. Sterling Oil out of Crocker for 35 years.  After retiring in 2003 he became known as “Catfish Bob.’’ He earned this nickname because of his love for catfishing by trotline and hosting big fish fries while spending time with his family and friends.  

In addition to wife, Joyce Malmberg, he is also survived by four children, Craig Malmberg of Richland, Elizabeth “Liz” Ferguson and husband Jay of Lees Summit; Shannon Malmberg of Iberia, and John Malmberg and wife Shanna of Joplin; six grandchildren, Bryce, Ellen, Camron, Chelsea, Cayden, and Lucas; three great-grandchildren, Brantley, Stetson, and Easton; one brother, Randy Malmberg and wife Becky of Iberia; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to noon, with services immediately following at noon on Saturday, May 26, 2018, at Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia with Bro. Freddie Earp officiating.

Burial with military honors will be held in Madden Cemetery near Iberia, under the direction of Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home of Iberia. 

Memorial contributions are suggested to Madden Cemetery.
