Ruby Jewell Huelskamp of Lebanon, passed away Sunday, October 29, 2023, in Lebanon South Nursing and Rehab. She was born December 19, 1930, to the late William B. Walker and Retha Rose Carlisle Walker in New Madrid, Missouri. At the time of her passing, she was ninety-two years, ten months and ten days of age.
Ruby spent her early years in New Madrid before moving to the St. Louis area with her family. It was there she met and married her true love, Robert C. Huelskamp, on August 9, 1952. Robert was a military man and during this time they spent time in Columbus, Ohio; England; Kokomo; Indiana; Guam; Omaha, Nebraska; Salina, Kansas; Sacramento, California; and Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri. When Robert retired from the Air Force, they made their home in Lebanon. They shared thirty-two years of memories and happiness before Robert passed away on October 9, 1984.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brothers, Sherman and Charlie; three sisters, Eileen, Mary and Ann; and a son-in-law, Jimmie “Bo” Dorris.
Ruby is survived by her daughters, Rose Myhre and husband, William of Lebanon, Betty Dorris of Springfield, and Katherine Compton, of Lindale, Texas; her sons, Paul Huelskamp and wife, Joli of Oak Ridge, Tennessee and Robert C. Huelskamp, Jr. and wife, Brenda, of Kansas City; ten grandchildren, Matthew Bailey, Nicholas Bailey, Ashlee Huelskamp Johnson, Christopher Thomas, Carrie Thomas Smallwood, J.T. Dorris, Nicholas Dorris, Devin Compton, Danielle (Compton) Wright and Zachary Compton; fifteen great-grandchildren; and her brother, Donald Walker of O’Fallon, Missouri.
Ruby believed in God and looked forward to the day when she would spend eternity with her Heavenly Father. She was active at Harvest Tabernacle Church in Lebanon. She enjoyed reading her Bible and participated in the women’s ministry there.
In her spare time, Ruby liked to crochet, making items for herself, as well as family members and friends. She loved playing board games and cooking.
Her life was centered around her family. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren so much and wanted to spend as much time with them as she possibly could. She was so proud of each one of them.
May her memory serve as a guiding light, reminding us to embrace love and have a strong faith in Jesus. Though she may no longer be physically present, her memory will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
Visitation for Ruby Huelskamp will be held from 5-6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2023, at Holman-Howe Funeral Home in Lebanon. A graveside service will be Thursday, Nov. 2, 2023, at St. Dominic/St. Augustine Cemetery in Breese, Illinois. A memorial has been established for Regional Hospice and contributions may be made through the funeral home.
