TROY NATHAN PANNELL

Posted

Troy Nathan Pannell, son of Lester and Charlene Pannell, was born on May 27, 1966, in Springfield, Missouri. He passed away on Sunday, October 8, 2023.

Troy is survived by Angie and Joe Wojak of New York City, Eric and Dynesha Pannell of Nixa, and his nieces, Hannah and Ella Pannell.

Troy grew up in Lebanon, Missouri with his brother, Eric Pannell, and sister, Angie Wojak. He spent many hours at the family farm, reading voraciously and enjoying a passion for fantasy and science fiction literature and films. He and Angie spent many hours devouring comic books and talking about movies and TV shows they both loved. Troy was also a fantastic storyteller. He enjoyed going for long walks on the family farm, especially at night. Troy graduated from SMSU with his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in English and Education. He taught English and literature courses at Lebanon High School and then Ozark Technical College where the student body voted him Teacher of the Year and Most Influential Educator. Troy was passionate about reading, literature, and especially teaching. His proudest accomplishment was teaching generations of young students in the Lebanon area. When family were out and about in Lebanon with Troy, invariably his former students would approach with joy to see him. It was wonderful to see these interactions and know how much his teaching meant in students’ lives. Troy was kind, smart, and had a wonderful sense of humor. He added so much laughter to family gatherings. He was a beloved son, brother, uncle, friend, and teacher. He will always be in our hearts. There will not be a public service but the family asks that in lieu of sending flowers, you consider donating to your local public library or purchase a book from an independent bookseller, in honor of Troy’s lifelong passion for reading and teaching literature.

All services will be private.

Arrangements were under the direction of Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Lebanon.
