Vernon Edward “Cabbage” Waterman, 86, Lebanon, Missouri was born January 21, 1938, to Amos and Bonnie (Simmons) Waterman in Eldridge, Missouri. Vernon departed this life for his Heavenly Home on June 8, 2024.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Amos and Bonnie Waterman; wife, Pamela Lee Waterman; sister Dottie Jean Kiselick; brother, William Aaron Waterman; son Donnie Leon Lamar; son-in-law, Dennis Wade Vassar; great grandson, Cole Brady Waterman; and great-great granddaughter, McKinnley Tipton.

Vernon is survived by his children, Ed Waterman and wife, Naomi, of Hotlon, Michigan, Debbie Waterman and husband, Sammy, of Beebe, Arkansas, Ronnie Lamar and wife, Karen of Lebanon, Missouri, Sherri Vassar, of Cushing, Oklahoma, Bonnie Eidson, of Lebanon, Missouri, and daughter-in-law Betty Lamar, of Lebanon, Missouri; sixteen grandchildren; forty-one great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; nephews, Bruce Waterman of Michigan, Edwin Goans, Leeland Goans of Florida and nieces, Patricia LaMadline and Sherrlynn Storms of Michigan; as well as a host of other family and friends.

Vernon proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy from 1955 to 1959. He was a Communications Specialist. Vernon “Cabbage” was a very hard worker and took pride in everything he did. He had a great working career that covered many different trades, he was a journeyman lineman and plumber, union carpenter, cabinet maker, OTR truck driver and was a jailer at the Laclede County Sheriff’s Department. Vernon also worked the harvest in Oklahoma for many years in the 1970’s, was a fishing guide at the Lake of the Ozarks, and a dance instructor at the Arthur Murray dance studio. After retirement, Vernon worked for Great Life Golf Course, Lebanon, Missouri. He worked for them for 22 years, making sure the golf course was perfectly manicured and playing cards with his golfing buddies. He took great pride in all his work and great passion for doing it right.

In his spare time, Vernon enjoyed spending time with family, rebuilding boats, fishing, bowling, golfing, and fish fries. We were blessed with 86 years with a loving and respectful man that was loved and respected by all who knew him.

Graveside services for Vernon Edward “Cabbage” Waterman will be held 10 a.m., Saturday, June 29, 2024, at Hufft Cemetery. The family of Vernon request in lieu of flowers and plants that memorial do nations be made to Day Funeral Home to help with funeral expenses.
