DORIS KAY (HICKS) McNEW

Doris Kay (Hicks) McNew, 65, of Springfield, died Thursday, Dec. 2, 2022, in Springfield.

She was born May 25, 1957, in Phillipsburg, Mo. to Huey Lewis and Gladys Irene Moore Hicks.

On June 27, 1981, she married Kenneth McNew at Bennett Spring State Park.

Those preceding Doris in death include her parents; brothers, Edward, Lawrence, Doyle, Bud and Wayne Hicks, and Jim Todd; sisters, Alma Dame, Retha Dame, Melba Hicks, Maxine Keller and Lynda Sheets, and one grandson, Jaxson Allen.

She loved life, loved God and loved fishing. She was happiest with a fishing pole in her hand. She was a thoughtful and generous person. She loved her family to the fullest. Her proudest accomplishments were her children and grandchildren.

Doris was baptized at Hamlin Baptist Church in Springfield in 2001.

She is survived by her husband Kenneth “Kenny” McNew; daughter, Debbie Gratton-Allen and her husband Mike of Lebanon; Debbie’s father, David Gratton of Cape Coral, Fla.; two sons, Anthony McNew and his wife Tanya of Lebanon, and Corey Michael McNew and his wife Bethany of St. Louis, Mo.; grandchildren, Viviana Comer, Makayla McNew, Willow Allen, Lillian McNew and Elliot McNew; also Jennifer Comer who gave her the first grandchild. Doris was also a “Nana” to Jessica Blain and her children, Matthew Cook, Jonathan Cook and Victoria Nelson; three brothers, Paul Hicks of Lebanon; Tom Hicks and his wife Jing of Toganoxie, Kan. and Kenny Ray Hicks and his wife Judy of Denver, Colo.; one sister, Sue Tyre and her husband Bob of Lebanon; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services for Doris Kay (Hicks) McNew will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, 2022, at Shadel’s Colonial Chapel with Gerald Dame officiating. Burial will be in Flatwoods Cemetery under the direction of Shadel’s Colonial Chapel of Lebanon. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. Wednesday also at Shadel’s Colonial Chapel.
